Trent Lott boosts Joe Biden and Donald Trump, isn’t identified as a corporate lobbyist

The news media has a habit of quoting former lawmakers who are today working as lobbyists, government affairs advisors, sit on corporate boards, or have other conflicts of interest without noting those conflicts of interest.

For instance, former Republican Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott was interviewed by the Yahoo News podcast the Long Game. He offered his thoughts on the presidential race including saying he stands by President Donald Trump, and that Vice President Joe Biden would be the strongest Democratic nominee.

Lott has a lifetime in politics and he may very well have some political insight, but it should be disclosed that he’s not a disinterested observer. In 2018, he worked as a corporate lobbyist for Amazon, UnitedHealth, Toshiba, FedEx, the National Association of Broadcasters, and many others.

In articles promoting their podcast, especially with a headline more or less giving a boost to Biden, it would be worth it for Yahoo to disclose these facts.
