Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has tapped Roger Lau as her 2020 campaign manager.
Lau helped lead Warren’s 2018 Senate campaign, and has deep roots in Massachusetts, having worked for numerous other Democratic politicians in the state, including Democratic Rep. Richard Neal and Senator John Kerry.
Interestingly, Lau was a state director for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid, when she was the most conservative frontrunner against then Sens. Barack Obama and John Edwards.
The pick suggests that Warren preferred bringing on a known liability with political experience over bringing in a sort of grassroots progressive type. It will be interesting to see how Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders picks his new campaign manager — will he go for an experienced hand, or will he go more in the grassroots insurgent direction?
